The fifth artist in our Mountains at (He)Art project is Alberto Selvestrel, who has interpreted for us in one of his anthropic landscape photographs, Acer, one of our best sellers poles in the world of hiking and trekking.
For us, he created Untitled, which we present to you as a preview through the words of the artist.
“Untitled, 2023 is the work I created to celebrate Cober 70: Mountains at (He)Art. It was a fun and challenging project that allowed me to take a photograph that was different but, at the same time, in line with my production style.
As always, architecture and landscape play a prominent role in my work, and to remain faithful to this, and to Cober’s project which follows the thread of Italianism, I decided to shoot in the magnificent Ligurian territory, more precisely the town of Varigotti. So, I walked along the pilgrim’s path that connects Noli to Varigotti, taking my poles with me, until I found the perfect spot. There I placed the poles on the low wall of a house by the sea, and photographed the whole thing.
As is often the case in my work, the architecture, in this case the characteristic houses of the town, contributed to creating a play of lines and shapes, thus giving life to a composition in which the human world and the natural world dialogue in harmony”.
“The characteristic dwellings of the Ligurian town have contributed to creating an interplay of lines and shapes, resulting in a composition in which the human and natural worlds dialogue in harmony”
Born in Turin in 1996, Alberto currently lives and works in San Damiano d’Asti. At the age of 17, Selvestrel approached photography with a focus on landscape. Two years later, he deepened his self-taught research and focused on the anthropic landscape and its modifications, starting to develop his personal style characterised by geometric and minimal compositions.
Selvestrel’s research is aimed at condensing the maximum of his conceptual expression into the minimum of form. His photographs establish a link between the reality of the landscape and the one he imagined. Exploring the concept of landscape in a nostalgic manner, Selvestrel’s works find a fascination in the clarity of content and an uncompromising attitude towards conceptual and minimal art.
Working from this perspective, Selvestrel thus succeeds in questioning the cohesive relationship between the dystonic worldview and the striking architectural geometries, transporting the viewer into a space where the work of man and nature can coexist without tension. The result is a splendid blend of synthesis and luminosity that invites the viewer to lose himself and, at the same time, to seek himself in these lifeless yet so calming and poetic landscapes.
Since 2017, Alberto Selvestrel has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Europe and participated in international contemporary art fairs with ArtNoble gallery. In 2019 and 2022, FujiFilm selected Selvestrel as the only Italian testimonial for the global launch of the X-Pro3 camera and 30mm Macro lens, while, in 2020, he is selected by Automobili Lamborghini for the With Italy for Italy project to re-evaluate the Italian territory post Covid-19. In 2020, Alberto exhibited in his first solo show in Milan, Dialogues, ArtNoble gallery, and in 2021 he was invited to participate in Una Boccata d’Arte, a project by Fondazione Elpis in collaboration with Galleria Continua.
