A walk through the woods in the winter silence, framed by the season’s first snowfall. Rays of sunlight filter through the snow-covered trees, illuminating breathtaking glimpses of the tranquil winter landscape.
For this excursion, the route follows the road connecting Val d’Ultimo to Alta Val di Non, between Trentino and South Tyrol, before continuing along a forest trail above the village of Proves. Some mountain huts, far from the bustling ski resorts, remain open in winter—such as Malga Cloz and Malga Revò—offering visitors a fairytale-like setting and unforgettable experiences.
After a short initial stretch of gentle uphill walking through the woods, the path opens into the heart of a snow-covered plateau, where Malga Cloz already comes into view.
Near the malga, vast expanses of fresh snow invite us to sink our boots into their soft surface. From here, the view stretches freely in all directions, with the pale winter sun casting perfect light to admire the surrounding landscape. Snow blankets the fields around the malga and the summer pastures, rising up to the white peaks of the Maddalene Range.
In the distance, the summit of Vedetta Alta appears so brilliantly white that the depth of the snow cover is almost tangible.
Turning our gaze to the other side, the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites come into sight before us.
The hypnotic, untouched snowfields captivate our senses, but the silent embrace of the forest calls us back to the trail, where we follow fresh tracks in the snow. Off the main path, it’s always a joy to take a few playful steps into the deep powder, where the PowPow winter poles provide support, helping us maintain balance and stay afloat thanks to their larger winter baskets.
We reach Malga Revò and continue walking towards Malga Untere Kesselalm. The trail winds back into the snow-covered forest, narrowing as it descends briefly.
Here, we venture deeper into the valley, surrounded by towering white peaks that seem to draw ever closer. The snowy path is easy to follow, with the view stretching further with every step. The vast expanses of snow capture our gaze until we finally reach Malga Untere Kesselalm, a picture-perfect scene of winter beauty.
We take a moment to pause and embrace the stillness before retracing our steps along the same trail. As we walk back, the sun slowly begins its descent, casting the soft glow of sunset over the landscape, heralding the cold tranquillity and wonder of winter.
