Over the years, Cober has earned a special reputation among freeride enthusiasts, thanks to innovative solutions dedicated to the discipline and the reliability of materials and technologies capable of withstanding the particular stresses of off-piste skiing in powder. Models such as the XL, PowPow and Pyrus, the latter specifically dedicated to splitboard enthusiasts, have become the benchmark for the freerider community in the Alps.
For the 2023-24 winter season, we are offering two novelties in the field of length-adjustable freeride poles, a feature that is particularly in demand for those enthusiasts who combine ascending on lifts with ski touring in search of virgin slopes and channels.
The main news of the season is the SubZero, an innovative, robust and versatile telescopic freeride pole. Contrary to what is normally the case, it is the bottom shaft that has the largest diameter, in this case an impressive 18mm made of Ergal 7075 aeronautical aluminium, an alloy that offers the best ratio between weight and strength. The result of this solution is that the pole is stronger where it is needed, i.e. in the lower part that is most exposed to impacts on rocks, trees and ice. This also makes height adjustment easier. The SubZero is equipped with premium solutions such as the lightweight thermo-foam rubber grip with easily adjustable quickstrap, the unique CamLock closure developed by Cober’s R&D centre, the widia tip and a 92mm powder basket.
The second news of the season is the Thunder, which shares the technical features of PowPow, one of our most successful freeride poles. Featuring an aggressive magenta colour scheme and a long, comfortable foam grip that allows the hold to be moved during ascent and descent, Thunder is a telescopic freeride pole equipped with Cober’s exclusive CamLock closure and a 92mm powder basket also in magenta. The 14mm and 16mm shafts are made respectively of Ergal 7075 aeronautical aluminium, an alloy that offers the best ratio between weight and strength, and 5083 aluminium, sourced from recycled material.
